If you want to attribute an emotion to an inanimate object, simply turn to any number of childrens' books. How about attributing "effort" to "The Little Engine that Could"? (One might argue that in these cases the inanimate object has been made a 'person' already. But there are others which are less clear, like the steam shovel in "Are you My Mother?". lojbab
