  • If you're looking for me, try e-mail first. I can be reached at joefu-at-yahoo-dot-com. I try to check email once or twice a day even when I'm away from home. Note: since this helpful contact info was placed here in 1996, less than 11 people have found it useful.
  • I consider myself a computer/math/finance geek. This partially explains the fractal images above. I spent 4 years at Caltech studying applied math with a strong computer emphasis. My current interest lies somewhere in the area of computational finance.
  • Financial information is well-represented on the Web, but here are my links anyway. My favorite commentary is that to be found on TheStreet.com. My other financial links are dead. I will come up with new ones soon.
  • Occasionally I sell stuff on eBay. I have a yellow star next to my handle, joefu. If I have any, my auctions are displayed here.
  • I am currently employed as a software engineer at StarMine. This means I get paid to play with fast computers and code dynamic Web pages. I'm sure there's a catch...
  • I enjoy games of chance in which skillful play gives me a chance to win. I recommend learning poker and sports betting. There are also limited edges to be had in blackjack or video poker. Even if you do not aim to beat the house, I still recommend these games since the typical player is much better off than in the other games.
  • I am sometimes asked for guidance on visiting Las Vegas. If you only go once, make it Bellagio. If you want good accommodations and some very good gambling, and bowling lanes are a plus to you, you will enjoy staying at the Gold Coast. I can also sometimes be found at the Reno Hilton.
  • I am a fan of many organized sports. My roommate and I will be 2002 Oakland A's season ticket holders (we won't have full-season tickets, but will probably have all weekend games). I am also a fan of the NHL's San Jose Sharks and college football's Boise State Broncos.
  • I run Linux, mankind's best hope for robust, efficient, and flexible use of computer hardware in the next decade. I was even using it before it was cool.
  • If you are truly bored enough to track my plans and whereabouts, feel free to view my shared Yahoo! Calendar.
  • Here is a short photographic chronicle of what my roommate and I put together for Caltech's Ditch Day.
  • Here is a page dedicated to the memory of Ginny, who was the world's foremost calico cat.
  • Here is a page explaining my method for creating easy, delicious bean dip.
  • Here is the best coffee (and tea) vendor in the world: Peets
  • Here you can see what became of the last time I made snowmen.

"This is the tragedy of life. Because for a few minutes of every day, every man becomes a genius. Moments of clarity, insight, whatever you want to call them. The clouds part, the planets get in a neat little line, and everything becomes obvious. I should quit smoking, maybe, or here's how I could make a fast million, or such and such is the key to eternal happiness. That's the miserable truth. For a few moments, the secrets of the universe are opened to us. Life is a cheap parlor trick. But then the genius, the savant, has to hand over the controls to the next guy down the pike, most likely the guy who just wants to eat potato chips, and insight and brilliance and salvation are all entrusted to a moron or a hedonist or a narcoleptic. "
