If you want to charge money for this, I'll laugh my head off. Yep. This is a parody of the Space Quest FAQ, and is rather sparse on anything. All copyrighted names belong to their owners. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] INTRODUCTION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1.1] Author Profile ---------------------- (written sometime in 1996, and far too silly to update) I'm Kevin Wallace, a 15 year old Astro Chicken fanatic who is currently a sophomore in high school. The first Astro Chicken game I played was Astro Chicken, which I played in Space Quest 3 a couple o' years ago. Being a fan of Space Quest and Astro Chicken, I gleefully pestered my parents until they bought me Space Quest 4 (also known as That Game which Hath Ms. Astro Chicken). Today I am human (still), and I run WilcoWeb and AstroChickenWeb. I am not entirely sane according to most people. Teehee. [1.2] How to Contact the Author --------------------------------- You may contact me via e-mail at wilcoweb@geocities.com My Web sites were WilcoWeb at http://www.geocities.com/Area51/5970 and AstroChickenWeb at http://www.geocities.com/Area51/5970/astrochicken.html Groovy, huh? Unfortunately, times have changed, and my SQ site has since left. My new web site is Solitaire Sketch, hosted where WilcoWeb was and it's an art site. Sorry, ya'll. [1.3] The FAQ story --------------------- Troels Pleimert created the Space Quest FAQ. I liked it. I got bored one day. I parodied it. The end result is sitting on your screen right now. [1.4] News in the Astro Chickeniverse --------------------------------------- This section is about news dealing with Astro Chicken. *gasp!* * ASTRO CHICKEN 7! Chris Geroux, the web-master of ScumSoft HQ, was working on making Astro Chicken 7 from an idea by "Deep Freeze". Since I posted this blurb in 1996, no news has come from that quarter, so we must sadly assume that the project is gone * SPACE QUEST 7 WAS GOING TO HAVE ASTRO CHICKEN! The cancelled game, Space Quest 7, apparently had a 3d Astro Chicken laser tag game planned for inclusion within. We'll probably never see it. No further news! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [2] THE BASIC HISTORY OF ASTRO CHICKEN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [2.1] What is Astro Chicken? ------------------------------ The Astro Chicken games are a series of games in which you control a chicken and must guide it to the goal in various ways. They are all arcade/action games. [2.2] The Creators of Astro Chicken ------------------------------------- Astro Chicken began it's beginnings, as many good things do, humbly. Doug Oldfield originally created a funny little game that he called "Chicken Lander", based off of those old lander style games. The Two Guys from Andromeda must have recognized the sheer brilliance of this work, and convinced him to put it into Space Quest 3 (of which he was a programmer for). Astro Chicken 2 was created entirely by Chris Geroux, and is not supported by Sierra Online in any way known, and he is currently at work on Astro Chicken 7. [2.3.1] Astro Chicken ----------------------- Astro Chicken is a rather silly arcade game in Space Quest 3. In it, you controlled Astro Chicken, a chicken that was wearing a grey vest with a green "A" on it, and you were supposed to guide this chicken to a safe landing in the midst of a minefield. [2.3.2] Ms. Astro Chicken: Flight of the Pullet ------------------------------------------------- Ms. Astro Chicken is a side-scrolling arcade game in Space Quest 4 in which you control Ms. Astro Chicken and need to guide her to a Chicken Coop at the end of the game whilst dodging enemies and inanimate objects, the land-bound enemies can be stopped quickly by eggs, which you can get more of by eating corn. [2.3.3] Astro Chicken 2 (Non-Sierra product) ---------------------------------------------- Astro Chicken 2 is a spiffy arcade game created by Chris Geroux, webmaster of The ScumSoft Headquarters, using Klik 'N' Play. It is a freeware game in which you are supposed to guide Astro Chicken through a number of levels, the last of which you must destroy some Pirates of Pestulon in Skullfighters and then destroy ScumSoft HQ. [2.4] The Characters ---------------------- [2.4.1] Astro Chicken ----------------------- Name: Astro Chicken Rank: Astro Chicken Birthplace: Unknown Planet, Galaxy: Unknown Age: Unknown Starred in: Astro Chicken, Space Quest 3, Astro Chicken 2 Astro Chicken is the hero of the Astro Chicken series (Not the Ms. Astro Chicken series). Astro Chicken's past remains shrouded in mystery, but he is said to have been created as a character in a video game for the sole purpose of giving the Two Guys from Andromeda a chance to excape from the clutches of the Pirates of Pestulon. Astro Chicken attempted to land on a landing pad in a mine field for no reason discernible except perhaps for life or for our amusement. Later, he flew through space, dodging asteroids and then destroying squirrels, until reaching the planet Pestulon, on which he fought a number of the Pirates of Pestulon and eventually destroyed ScumSoft HQ. His current whereabouts are unknown. [2.4.2] Ms. Astro Chicken --------------------------- Name: Ms. Astro Chicken Rank: Astro Chicken Birthplace: Unknown Planet, Galaxy: Unknown Age: Unknown Starred in: Ms. Astro Chicken, Space Quest IV Ms. Astro Chicken is the hero of the Ms. Astro Chicken series (Not the Astro Chicken series). Her past is a complete mystery, but alluding to the fact that her name is MS. Astro Chicken as opposed to MRS. Astro Chicken she may be either just another Astro Chicken, or possibly the daughter, sister, or maybe beloved of Astro Chicken. We may never know. In flight of the pullet, she is attempting to fly to a chicken coop whilst dodging farmer's with guns, dogs, flying squirrels, and various inanimate objects. Her current whereabouts are unknown. [2.4.3] The Farmers --------------------- Names: Unknown Rank: Farmers Birthplace: Unknown Planet, Galaxy: Unknown Age: Unknown Starred in: Ms. Astro Chicken, Space Quest IV Virtually nothing is known of the farmers, except that they seem to be hell-bent on shooting down Ms. Astro Chicken in her quest to reach the chicken coop. Their motives are unknown, and all info about them is shrouded in mystery. [2.4.4] The Farmers' Dogs --------------------------- Names: Unknown Rank: Dogs Birthplace: Unknown Planet, Galaxy: Unknown Age: Unknown Starred in: Ms. Astro Chicken, Space Quest IV These rather dopey looking dogs want to catch Ms. Astro Chicken for reasons unfathomable to THIS fanatic. Their evil behavior can be remedied by dropping eggs upon their heads. They, also, are shrouded in mystery. [2.4.5] The Flying Squirrels ------------------------------ Names: Unknown (kinda repetitious, aren't I?) Rank: Flying Squirrels Birthplace: Unknown Planet, Galaxy: Unknown Age: Unknown Starred in: Ms. Astro Chicken, Space Quest IV These vile creatures of the air aim toward Ms. Astro Chicken and do nothing else to her, which is fortunate. These denizens of evil also appeared in Astro Chicken 2 in space, and did not show much intelligence in either game. [2.5] Release dates --------------------- Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon March 1989 (Included Astro Chicken within) Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco & The Time Rippers (Disk Version) Winter 1990/91 (?) (Included Ms. Astro Chicken within) Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco & The Time Rippers March 1991 (CD-ROM version) (Included Ms. Astro Chicken within) Astro Chicken II Feb. 10th 1997 [2.5.1] When is Astro Chicken VII coming out? ----------------------------------------------- Not a clue if it ever will. [2.6] Credits for all Astro Chicken games ------------------------------------------- Doug Oldfield created and programmed Chicken Lander. No other information is known by me. [2.8] Awards -------------- No awards. Yet. However, in my opinion it is merely a matter of time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [3] HINTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [3.1] How to... ----------------- [3.1.1] How to avoid the mines (AC) ------------------------------------- Move left and right and aim for that thar landin' pad. Simple, really. [3.1.2] How to avoid the squirrels (Ms. AC) --------------------------------------------- Move up and down. Alternately, fly through the chicken-wire fences, and you will be able to take a certain number of hits from them without any adverse effects. [3.1.3] How to avoid the farmer (Ms. AC) ------------------------------------------ Move away from the buckshot. You can also just nail him with an egg, which works pretty well. [3.1.4] How to avoid the dog (Ms. AC) --------------------------------------- Either stay out of reach and/or nail him with an egg. [3.1.5] How to avoid the inanimate objects (Ms. AC) ----------------------------------------------------- Move up. It works. Trust me. [3.1.6] How to avoid the asteroids (AC 2) ------------------------------------------- I usually ended up attempting to go around behind them where they couldn't come near me. Watch out, because their radius to hurt you actually extends beyond their graphics. [3.1.7] How to avoid the flying squirrels (AC 2) -------------------------------------------------- They always go in the same straight line, so just move to the side of them, I shoot them from the side so as not to have to get in their line of flight. [3.1.8] How to destroy ScumSoft (AC 2) ---------------------------------------- Just keep shooting it whilst dodging it's attacks. [3.2} Need more hints? ------------------------ I can help ya if ya want, although you probably won't need it. E-Mail: wilcoweb@geocities.com Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/5970 [3.2.1] I've lost my manual! Can you give me the copy protection? ------------------------------------------------------------------- You seriously need help (no offense). The Astro Chicken games have NO manuals. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [4] BEHIND THE SCENES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [4.1] Astro Chicken --------------------- [4.1.1] Fun Facts ------------------- Astro Chicken began as Chicken Lander, and looked very different in the SQ3 promotional video ( available at Ken Williams' Web-site: http://tsa.sierra-online.com/ ) [4.2] Ms. Astro Chicken ------------------------- [4.2.1] Fun Facts ------------------- Who needs facts?! The game's fun in itself! Seriously though, If you can think of anything that I could put in here, let me know. [4.3] Astro Chicken 2 ----------------------- [4.3.1] Fun Facts ------------------- Chris Geroux made this game in a very short amount of time using a neato program called Klik 'N' Play. If ya have any other info that I can put in here, let me know. [4.4] Astro Chicken in other games ------------------------------------ [4.4.1] Space Quest 3 ----------------------- In Monolith Burger, the Astro Chicken video game is essential to the game. On Phleebut, in World-O-Wonders, you can buy an Astro Chicken Official Flight Hat. It's truely the perfect hat for any occasion :). [4.4.2] Space Quest 4 ----------------------- In the Galaxy Galleria, the Ms. Astro Chicken video game is in Buckazoid Bill's Arcade and Sushi Bar. [4.4.3] Space Quest 5 ----------------------- In Space Quest 5, in the Genetix Laboratory, an Astro Chicken game was listed under accounting. [4.4.4] Jones in the Fast Lane -------------------------------- In Monolith Burgers, Astro Chicken is a meal on the menu! (*GASP!*) [4.5] What the ScumSoft guys didn't think of ---------------------------------------------- Nothing. As far as I can tell.
