I too see no fundamental difference between object and event.  Perhaps we can
consider events and objects parallel to perfective and imperfective verbs.
  "Perfective" nouns emphasize the time duration, and thus signify events.
 "Imperfective" nouns leave the time frame open-ended, and thus signify
objects.  The word "fire" is an imperfective object, the word "flare-up" is a
perfective event.
